Google once again attempted to sue Microsoft and once again, it failed to win its case. An Administrative Law Judge at the USITC said that Microsoft's Xbox did not infringe Google's (Motorola's) U.S. Patent No. 6,246,862 on a "sensor controlled user interface for portable communication device". However, the case can still be put up for review, which means that the ruling can of course be overturned -- but that is still unlikely to happen. This is coming again after a previous article I discussed where Google Map's was banned in Germany.
It seems like Google is having a tough time winning its court cases these days. Let's see the strategy it decides to pursue in the upcoming future and whether or not it will actually win that time.
yeah google's having a tough time in court, but I think they'll be ok lol
ReplyDeleteAlso, the fact that Google does not really have any business in the gaming console industry it would be understandable that they did not win this patent law.
ReplyDeleteI think Google should start litigating technologies that are actually within their patent portfolio rather than trying to make stretched connections with non-comparable technologies and patents like that of the Xbox.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting that Microsoft and Google are duking it out even though they both issued amicus briefs in support of Apple. Regardless, it's pretty lame that Google even tried to assert this claim.
ReplyDeleteGreat read Adam. I think at this point, Google is just trying to sue anything regardless of the massive costs of the lawsuits. They should be spending more money on other aspects of the company, such as R&D, instead of patent lawsuits.
ReplyDeleteMicrosoft is coming out on top again in the patent wars. Google does not seem to be taking the wisest litigation shots. Suing for sensor controlled user interface seems way too broad of a basis for patent infringement.
